HAWTHORNE AVENUE STREET REHABILITATION PROJECT

RKA provided design and construction management services for the reconstruction of a local road in coordination with a new development for a senior housing project. The project was jointly funded by the City of La Verne and the project developer on an approximate 380' long segment of roadway. The scope of work included reconstruction of pavement, new sidewalk, and full replacement of the existing curb with a new curb and gutter. The project has a limited window allowed for construction but was completed on time and on budget, avoiding any conflicts or delays with the proposed development project. Due to historic residential homes that fronted half of the street, the project involved some complexities in resolving drainage and grading issues stemming from sub standard curb heights and drainage, and ensuring compliance with ADA accessibility was provided for with the improvements. Converse Consultants provided a design phase soils report including pavement section recommendations for three alternatives, and continued into the construction phase to provide materials testing. Work was completed in March of 2021 with a project value of $169,000.
