RKA Consulting Group is seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Building Inspector to join our team. This role is essential in ensuring that construction projects meet all applicable codes, regulations, and safety standards.

KEY RESPONSBILITIES

  • Conduct Field Inspections: Conduct building inspections for clients at various stages to verify compliance with approved plans, specifications, and applicable codes, including structural, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems.
  • Code Enforcement: Identify violations of building codes and regulations; issue correction notices, stop-work orders, and citations as necessary.
  • Plan Review: Assist in reviewing building plans and permit applications for code compliance and constructability. Research building and other relevant codes.
  • Public Interaction: Provide guidance and information to contractors, architects, engineers, and the general public regarding code requirements and inspection procedures. Assist as needed with code enforcement cases.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed records of inspections, findings, and actions taken; prepare reports as required. Log-in daily inspection results on building permit records.
  • Collaboration: Coordinate with other departments and agencies to ensure comprehensive compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Additional Support: Must be available for after-hours emergency inspections and flexible to perform inspections in other cities as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Additional coursework in construction technology, engineering, or a related field is desirable.
  • Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of experience in building inspection, construction, or a related field.
  • Certification: Possession of a valid International Code Council (ICC) certification as a Residential or Commercial Building Inspector is required at the time of appointment.
  • Licenses: Valid California Class C driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
Desired Qualifications
  • Additional Certifications: ICC certifications in multiple disciplines (e.g., Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing) are highly desirable.
  • Technology Proficiency: Familiarity with mobile tools and computer programs like Microsoft Suite and various applications used for business. Bonus experience with electronic plan review systems and inspection software.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Knowledge of State of CA Building Standards, City’s adopted codes, ability to enforce standards/codes.
  • Familiarity with municipal permitting processes.
