RKA Consulting Group led the design revisions and easement preparation for the Claremont Boulevard / Monte Vista Avenue ADA Improvements Project. Initially prepared in 2020, the plans required updates to shift the sidewalk westward along Monte Vista Avenue, which enhances pedestrian accessibility and expanding the adjacent parkway for future landscape improvements.

Under direction from the City of Claremont, RKA revised the plans to reflect this realignment between Claremont Boulevard and Shenandoah Drive. The revisions involved significant coordination with existing improvements, easement boundaries, and public-private interfaces along the Claremont Club and a condominium complex.

RKA’s scope included:

• Coordinating and managing a topographic survey and right-of-way mapping in partnership with Kelsoe & Associates, covering curb-to-property edge features and resolving discrepancies due to previous widening activities
• Redesigning four plan sheets to reflect new sidewalk alignments and accessibility improvements
• Updating specifications and engineer’s estimates
• Preparing legal descriptions for two new sidewalk easements needed to accommodate the shifted alignment
• Obtaining a Preliminary Title Report from the condominium complex to confirm ownership, ensuring proper easement placement and legal accuracy

Throughout the process, RKA collaborated with City staff to develop conceptual sidewalk layouts, provide two rounds of review, and finalize construction-ready documents using the City’s preferred 11” x 17” format.

All services were completed on a time-and-materials basis for a not-to-exceed fee of $24,825, which included the optional title report task. RKA’s responsiveness, technical expertise, and attention to detail helped the City move forward with ADA compliance improvements that balanced functionality, aesthetics, and long-term usability.
